Tips & Strategies for Young Children with Speech and Language Delays

Presenter Melanie Delacruz, a certificated and licensed speech-language pathologist, will give a presentation on tips and strategies for working with young children with speech delays. Participants will learn to recognize signs/symptoms of language delays in young children, create opportunities for developing language and communication in everyday activities, and alternative methods of communication. She will also present the impact of speech and language delays on a child’s behavior and ways in which parents and professionals alike can intervene to ensure a child’s successful growth. This presentation will also include examples of materials, a "mini" sign-language lesson, and activities for brainstorming ideas.
