Course Description:

Special Topics in Special Needs--Fragile X & Fetal Alcohol Syndrome from a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Perspective

Dr. Roxanne Almas will be leading us in an engaging presentation on how to best support children with Fragile X Syndrome as well as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome through the lens of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP). Through interactive dialogue, clinical vignettes and videos, participants will leave with a better understanding of how genetic conditions and prenatal exposures can lead to specific syndromes. Dr. Almas will describe the epidemiology, clinical presentation of these two syndromes, as well as current available treatments and for Fragile X Syndrome, new on-going clinical trials. Participants will also gain an understanding of how these specific syndromes impact the family as a whole. Dr. Almas is a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician who has been working at KidScope Clinic for almost 2 years. She has a special interest in genetic syndromes, clinical trials for neurodevelopmental conditions and the role of caregivers. She completed her DBP fellowship training at Brown University and her General Pediatrics training at the University of Massachusetts.

This training is open to FIRST 5 partners, therapeutic and related service providers, and parents! CEUs available for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs, as required by the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences.
