Brazelton Touchpoints Approach: Focus on Families Who Have Children with Special Needs

Description: The focus of this workshop is to support practitioners already trained in Touchpoints to better understand how to apply the Touchpoints Approach with families who have children with special needs.

Touchpoints are periods during which a child’s spurt in development results in pronounced disruptions in the family system. The goal of the Touchpoints Approach is to change individual practice and cause a shift in the larger system around the care of families by combining relationship building and child development into a framework that service providers can use to enhance their work with children and families.

This workshop will provide providers with the opportunity to:

1.            Gain a deeper understanding of how to use the child’s behavior as their language

2.            Understand foundations of functional emotional development and how to utilize

3.            Explore Touchpoints as an opportunity to engage families who have children with special needs

4.            Observe a Touchpoints encounter with a parent of a child with special needs

Target audience: Practitioners who have completed 3-days of Touchpoints training in Santa Clara County.
