Partner Special Needs Training Series - Basic
(Two Series to be provided in 2013-2014)
 
    Series #1 Tuesday, Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, 2013
    Series #2 Thursday, Feb. 27 and March 6, 2014
                                              
* The first session of each Series meets from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  It addresses the   
   following two topics.
 
-   Working with Families When a Child Has a Disability
This presentation covers how to successfully collaborate with families that have a child with a known or suspected disability; understand parental grief; make use of community resources and PHP services; consider and ensure inclusion; and work with parents who may have their own disabilities.  The focus is fostering resiliency in these families and their young children.
 
     -   Understanding Early Start, the IFSP and the Transition to IEP
This introductory overview of Early Start and special education covers the basics of Early Start, the Prevention Resources and Referral Services program (PRRS), the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), the transition process and the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  It provides a foundation in understanding the transition steps as well as the similarities and differences between early intervention and special education programs.
 
* The second session in each Series meets from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
 
-    LD (Learning Disabilities) Simulation
The LD simulation is an experiential session designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustrations children with learning disability/attention deficit disorders encounter every day.  The simulation leads to greater empathy and understanding and gives participants insights and strategies for working effectively with these children and all children, irrespective of their particular disability.
