Course Description:

IMPACT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON CHILDHOOD AND LIFELONG DEVELOPMENT

This intermediate/advanced-level training for FIRST 5 partners will focus on the nature of domestic violence (DV) and its different types, including dating violence, so that participants will be better and earlier able to identify it. The workshop will next provide information on safety planning and community resources for victims who need additional help. It will then discuss the potential short- and long-term neurobiological, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, relational and physiological impact of DV on pre- and post-natal as well as on-going development. Lastly, but not least importantly, it will present strategies and interventions that may mitigate these challenges as one works to provide healing and recovery from such trauma.
