Communication Development and Speech and Language Support for Very Young Children
This intermediate/advanced level training will provide FIRST 5 partners with information about the process of speech and language development and the role of parents and other caretakers in supporting communication development and pre-literacy skills in children (ages 0-5). The session will examine the identification of speech and language delays as well as offer specific strategies that can be utilized to further support communication development when very young children are experiencing a language deficit or delay. Bilingual and multilingual language issues will be incorporated into these topics.
The goal of this talk is to provide FIRST 5 partners with information, strategies and resources to support families who have young children with communication challenges. Please bring your questions and concerns so we can make this session interactive and focused on your immediate needs. Certificates will be provided.
This course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education for
LCSW’s and LMFT’s required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Parents/caregivers and professionals outside the FIRST 5 network are also welcome.
